and the mypillow guy. today is deadline day to hand over documents to that committee. joining me now from capitol hill is nbc news national political reporter sahil kippur. sahil, will we see compliance? it is doubtful they will comply with these subpoenas. they both relish in political combat. both have put out defying statements in the last 24 hours, either through themselves or representatives, criticizing the work of this committee. overall the subpoenas have been fruitless in their investigation. they said, of the 40 that have been subpoenaed a vast number of them are engaging if not fully cooperating. they said they re getting valuable information from these people. they re not revealing what the information is, so it s difficult for us to evaluate.

we have shannon pettypiece and sahil kippur. shannon, what is the white house doing about this? reporter: a few beaks ago it was biden running the show, it was biden bringing those senators in to be briefed. it was biden have the direct talks with senator katko. now it s unclear if the president has even been briefed on this latest plan. white house officials said yesterday that the staff was briefed on wednesday, and at some point democratic staffers or senators were going to brief the president, but they were unclear if that actually happened yet. so, yes, this is largely in the hands of the senate. but the white house has indicated some things they are looking for, particularly they want a lot of new spending. they re comfortable with something around the trillion-dollar mark but they want a vast majority to be new
support to advance this bill. the senate is likely to vote on tuesday. there are multiple things that manchin said that offered democratic support, including making election day a national holiday guaranteeing 15 days of national voting. even a push for some i.d. rules was pushed by warnock if it is designed in a way to not be restrictive or oppressive. a significant move, but democrats are still a long way out to pass this bill. it s going to come down to the filibuster. let s stay on this and talk republicans. on one level you do have a bunch of democrats willing to sign on to manchin s proposal, and to sahil s point, stacey abrams is on board, but as soon as she got on board, it seemed like republicans latched onto just that as a reason to go against it. watch this. is that a compromise you could support? absolutely. what senator manchin is putting
