NSW COVID: A thousand police in Sydney ready to put down anti-lockdown protest

Save Share One thousand police officers are on standby to break up any repeat of last weekend’s anti-lockdown protest in Sydney, while health authorities are still trying to ascertain whether somebody with COVID-19 attended. As new research shows people who refuse to comply with health orders tend to be “male [and] less intelligent”, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller warned protesters not to bother turning up to a second rally because a large number of officers were ready to pounce no matter where in Sydney trouble might occur. “We know that this is such an important time for NSW in terms of winning the battle against the virus and coming into town to protest is not the answer,” he said.

What psychology says about COVID non-compliers

Date Time What psychology says about COVID non-compliers People who purposefully breach COVID-19 regulations tend to share certain characteristics, finds a study of attitudes and behaviours in Australia, the UK, the US and Canada. When people protested the COVID-19 lockdown in Sydney last week, many were speculating about whether a certain type of person was more likely to be involved. Does science back that up? A new University of Sydney study assessed people’s behaviours and attitudes towards pandemic regulations in Australia, the UK, the US, and Canada. It found that roughly 10 percent [1] of people were noncompliant. Those individuals were mostly male, less agreeable (cooperative, considerate), less intellectual as a personality trait (less willing to try new experiences), and more extroverted.
