Van helps Wiltshire Scrapstore carry on its charity work

WILTSHIRE Scrapstore & Resource Centre has taken delivery of a second-hand van to replace its current 22-year-old vehicle. The van was donated to the Lacock charity by Chippenham-based GreenSquareAccord housing group following an approach for help. The award-winning environmental and community charity at Bowden Hill, Lacock, collects resources that would otherwise go to landfill and redistributes them for creative activities and projects of all kinds, from arts and crafts to DIY. Glynis Cosgrave, assistant director of Wiltshire Scrapstore, said: “We operate with two vans, the oldest of which is now 22 years old and very much on its last legs having been purchased when the charity began.

Castle Mead residents welcome possible freeholder law reforms

TROWBRIDGE resident Stewart Benford has welcomed news that the Government may introduce reforms to freeholder and leaseholder laws. If passed by Parliament, the reforms could allow them to change the estate maintenance provider to 650 homes on the Castle Mead development. South West Wiltshire MP Dr Andrew Murrison has told residents in Castle Mead, Trowbridge, that he anticipates reforms in the next two Parliamentary sessions. The news has been welcomed by Mr Benford, a member of the Castle Mead Residents’ Group, representing homeowners in the area. They have been battling with GreenSquare Estates, part of the Chippenham-based GreenSquare Housing Association, for better quality public open space maintenance.

GreenSquare under pressure

Social housing group GreenSquare is facing increased pressure to improve its service to tenants. GreenSquare owns and manages over 12,000 homes in the region, with around 7,000 of these in north Wiltshire. Chippenham MP Michele Donelan says she has received 61 complaints in the past six months and now wants tenants who have a grievance to get in touch. I worry greatly about the ones that are not approaching me for help and urge anyone impacted to seek my assistance., she said. Also the severity of some of the cases I have had are alarming to say the least. She said there remains a disconnect between the policies and assurances given from the top versus what the frontline customer services are offering especially with the out of hours service.
