mederos was driving 85 miles an hour back in 2019 when he says his brakes failed. he caused that crash that killed not only four people but as you mentioned, injured numerous other people. he was not found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. the prosecution argued he should have used a runaway ramp to prevent that crash. he was found guilty on 27 different charges, which include several counts of vehicular homicide as well as vehicular assault. um, but because of colorado s mandatory minimum sentencing laws, which require sentences for each count to be served consecutively, rather than concurrently, he ended up facing more than a century in prison. this has gotten nationwide attention. nearly 5 million people signing a petition asking colorado governor jared polis to reduce the driver s sentence or to grant him clemency. the governor s office is telling cnn that it is reviewing that clemency request but legal experts tell us he is not likely to weigh in before this legal pro
