agenda at this weekend s camp david retreat. the speaker and other top republicans met with the president to discuss what issue to tackle on the list and infrastructure is at the top of it. also how to deal with dreamers, health care and entitlement and welfare reform. these are very ambitious goals for a party with a razor thin majority. back with me now to weigh in on all of it. colorado governor john hickenlooper. governor, i want to start with entitlement reform. specifically, the colorado family planning initiative. because a lot of peel don t know about this. your state provides low-income women with contraception and the numbers speak for themselves. in five years, the teen birth rate and abortion rate were almost cut in half. and the state has avoided almost 70 million bucks in public assistant costs. this is the most successful way of family planning is to give women long acting reversible contraception.
intention is to drive a wedge between south korea and the u.s. if you like, using the olympics as a kind of pretext. but, in spite of all that suspicion, stephanie, i think you have to say, you know, modest though this breakthrough is, it is real and we will see north korean and south korean athletes quite probably marching together at the opening ceremony in a month s time. that is significant. all right, thank you so much. get inside. it s raining where you are. up next, money, power, politics. president trump loves to tout the success of the stock market and check it out, it has done beautifulfully for the business class. i m going to ask governor hickenlooper if that makes any difference in the lives of his citizens in the state of colorado. but you have to see this first. this video all about last night s massive football win for alabama but it was not enough for offensive lineman bradley bossman who got down on one knee
supports, a lot of that s rule colorado, rule america. and they re the ones i mean, one of our best trading partners to maintain commodity prices is mexico. we need a strong relationship with mexico. let s put all that in together. and, again, building a wall is such a waste of money. there s ten other ways to, you know, secure the border. i think most people would agree we need to secure the border one way or another. why waste that money building a wall when it alienates one of our best trading partners? so, is it that someone is not willing to have the conversation with the president about the value of the wall? you build the wall, all you need to do is build a ladder one foot higher. i want to say it was yesterday, said, people that are dealing with this issue know that it is a third century solution to a 21st century problem and it s not going to fix anything long term. that s a republican saying that. why doesn t someone simply sit down with the president and explain it? this
behind in all this is that, you know, rough justice, 30% of the stock market is owned by foreign governments and foreign companies and foreign individuals. excellent, excellent point. did we borrow all this money to add to our national debt, to give a holiday gift to our international friends? i don t think most sovereign wealth funds in china yes. so if i m somebody in the state of colorado, how do i feel about the economy? i think it depends who you are and how you voted. steve rattner said earlier for the business class this is a boom. he said democrats who don t like president trump say listen, i don t like him, but this really works for me. that trump base this isn t going to serve them. take me to the base. i think the base is becoming frustrated. especially people in rural parts of colorado and rural parts of america are concerned about international trade. it s easy to talk about building walls but if that suddenly means you re going to get less money for
from is the trick. when you were on earlier, you were talking about rural counties in the state of colorado who are big trump supporters. i want to talk about the economy. president trump and his team and they should tout the extraordinary stock market performance. listen, we ve seen the stock market on a tear. for those who are invested, who have retirement accounts, 401ks, it s a big positive. only 50% of americans have any sort of investment in the market. so the 17% rise in the s&p, that s good for them. but for those who own homes, we ve only seen a 4% rise this year. wage, slightly over 2%. take me to your state. how does the economy feel? it s the same. it s the continuation of what we had under president obama. i don t think there s a different feel there. and i think it s worth, you know, the big tax simplification deal which really was i mean $1.5 trillion of tax cuts. how much of that is going to go to the national debt? a large part of that was for the stock market.
