This year, Rubaiyat Hossain has received the Best Director Award at the National Film Awards 2022 for her film "Shimu". While this award has been given every year for the past 48 years, she is only the second woman to be recognised amongst the recipients. Bangladeshi director Tasmia Afrin Mou’s mid-length Bengali documentary film, “Amar Nanur Bari” (Where My Grandma Lives), is about the destruction of water bodies in the name of development. It is amongst the ten works chosen for the much-awaited list of Film Bazaar of the 54th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held in Goa from November 20.
The actress, who won the Best Actress award at Festival de Saint -Jean-de-Luz, in France in 2019 for Rubaiyat Hossain’s ‘Shimu’, was announced the Best Actress in the National Film Award for her portrayal of her namesake this year. She will be taking home the award jointly with Jaya Ahsan (Beauty Circus).
