The massive mixed-use project is planned to bring hundreds of apartments, a hotel and new office buildings to the former Anthem campus near Willow Lawn, which is slated for its own transformation.
The $450 million plan calls for nearly 1 million square feet of new construction on the 29-acre plot, which is envisioned as a "gateway to Henrico Country from the City of Richmond," said its developer.
A stretch of the city's Northside is continuing to attract developer interest, as a mystery group is looking to bring 10 floors of new construction to the neighborhood.
A risk analysis of the deal, which last week drew added scrutiny from Gov. Glenn Youngkin, said the lease “was horribly one-sided, and certainly not what any of us would have recommended as a starting point for a complex transaction such as this.”
