Dr. Barry Joel Newman (74) passed away peacefully on Friday, April 23, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family, friends, and a great deal of love. A wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and husband, he will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
Born November 7, 1946 in Ogdensburg, New York, Barry grew up on a private dairy farm in nearby Kendrew Corners with his parents and favorite sister Karen. He received his undergraduate degree from SUNY Plattsburgh and went on to earn his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Missouri Columbia, School of Medicine. While in graduate school, Barry was active duty in the U.S. Army Reserves serving in the special forces medical unit, and was honorably discharged in 1974. He had an exciting business career in the medical sciences field, having the opportunity to travel the world and meet Susan, the love of his life and wife of 37 years.
