Rock Bridge Park housing development seeks approval on Thursday night

COLUMBIA - Developers are seeking approval on Thursday night for a housing development at Rock Bridge State Park.  The Planning and Zoning Commission meeting will hear from land developer Rob Hill on the proposed housing design. According to the meeting agenda, the plan requests about 65 acres of land near East Gans Road. The group plans to speak out against the proposed development at Thursday night s meeting.  We oppose the current development plan for Canton Estates, situated on the southeast corner of Gans and Bearfield Roads, because of its potential impact on the Gans Wild Area, and on the Gans and Clear Creeks, the public opposition comments said.

Columbia MO Citizens for Roll Carts holds protest in front of city hall

Refuse collection was at the forefront of the Columbia City Council meeting Monday  and even before the meeting started. Protesters from Columbia MO Citizens For Roll Carts stood outside City Hall collecting signatures for a roll cart initiative during the council s closed pre-council session. The protest included the group s #stuffthekeyhole initiative. Protesters were encouraged to bring trash bags full of old clothes or blankets to fill the gap in the city s Keys to the City sculpture that sits in front of the Daniel Boone Building.  Trash collection has continued to be a hot-button issue within the city, especially after the solid waste division switched to its new pay-as-you-throw system Feb. 1.
