we ve got a beautiful new business that we ve invested in. but mayor paula dierenfield says the buildings, which have been vacant since 2009 are holding the entire city of johnston from its full potential. we really couldn t get people interested in the redevelopment in this area. it was a real impediment for developers to even consider it.it took seven years and lengthy conversations.. i believe the property owner finally took a look at the condition of the facility and realized it couldn t be rehabilitated. but the city struck a deal with the site s ownership at metro lodging l.c. i think he realized that if he demolished the hotel, it might make it easier for him to sell the property for another use. demolition that won t force resident s to shoulder the load. demolition is being done by the property owner so that is being done at no cost the property tax owners we believe there s a real some sort of a destination retail or convention center hotel. now johnston resid
first on 13. des moines police say snow and stop sticks helped them catch two men involved in an overnight chase. just after midnight, officers responded to an attempted home invasion in the 600 block of park. the suspects sped away in a car and a pursuit began. officers say after chasing the miles per hour, they set down stop sticks. this caused the car to spin out in this ditch at 63rd and park. the ran away into a nearby wooded area. officers followed their tracks them soon facing attempted burglary charges. the driver also faces charges of firearm. a bill meant to better protect athletes is moving ahead in the iowa senate. the plan would require an athletic trainer on site at every varsity level sporting event. the goal is to have someone on staff who can help diagnose and treat a student who suffers a head injury. current rules say teams must remove a student suffering a concussion from the game and the player can only return once a doctor gives an okay. school leaders
