Negotiations Continue on the Line 5 Pipeline File – May 12, 2021
Mediation is ongoing between the State of Michigan and the Enbridge oil company over the possible closure of the Line 5 pipeline. Ottawa has decided to play the legal card, presenting Tuesday a brief in a US federal court to prevent the closure, which would result in the possible loss of thousands of jobs in Canada. Meanwhile, the Governor of Michigan is threatening to seize Enbridge’s profits from the operation of the pipeline. We take stock with Carol Montreuil, vice-president of the Canadian Fuels Association.
Should the Trudeau government have acted earlier in court on the issue of the possible closure of the Line 5 pipeline? Does Bill C-10, which seeks to subject YouTube and Facebook to the same rules as traditional broadcasters, promote censorship, as the Conservatives say? We debate it with political observers Sheila Copps (LIB), Marc-André Leclerc (CPC), Farouk Karim (NDP) and Richard Nadeau (BQ).
Reaction to NACI Guidance on Vaccines – May 4, 2021
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attempts to reassure Canadians by saying that all vaccines are safe. He was reacting to a statement by Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) that said Pfizer and Moderna are the preferred vaccines, unlike those from Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca. NACI argues that Canadians who consider themselves at low risk for coronavirus would be better off waiting for these vaccines. Dr. Nathalie Grandvaux answers our questions on the conflicting guidance.
What is the political impact of NACI’s statement and is the image of the entire Conservative party family in Canada being tarnished by the situation in Alberta and Ontario? The answers of our political observers Sheila Copps (Liberal), Farouk Karim (NDP), Marc-André Leclerc (CPC) and Richard Nadeau (Bloc Québécois).
