this is bbc news with the latest headlines for viewers in the uk and around the world. large scale trials of a coronavirus vaccine developed by oxford university and astrazeneca show it is 70% effective at preventing covid 19, rising to 90% depending on the dosage. it really looks as if there is a vaccine which has the potential to protect against the disease. and importantly, in anyone who had the vaccine, there were no admissions to hospital, no severe disease. the uk government has secured 100 million doses of the vaccine enough for most of the uk population. we hope to be able to start vaccinating next month. the bulk of the vaccine roll out programme will be in january, february, march.
