For the second time in two attempts, Reyce Turner is taking home a state medal. After taking fourth at 285 pounds last season, Turner returned to the Class 3 boys wrestling state championships at Mizzou Arena and upped his medal to second place. “Felt great to be back up there,” Turner said. “But I think I could have done better, I could do better. I can do better next year for sure.”
The Capital City Cavaliers came into the Missouri Duals with a couple of goals in mind. “We were focused on attitude and effort,” Capital City coach Mitch Werdehausen said. “We wanted to fight battles and maybe win the war.” The Cavaliers opened the Duals by going 1-2 on Friday night in action at Rackers Fieldhouse.
The Capital City Cavaliers started the season in dominant fashion.m The Cavaliers beat St. James 70-12 with only one match going the distance in a season-opening match Tuesday night at Capital City High School. The Lady Cavaliers earned pins in both their matches for a 12-0 win Tuesday.
Once again, the Capital City Cavaliers are set to play the biggest game in program history. The Cavaliers are set to face a rematch against the Helias Crusaders in Capital City’s first district championship game in the four-year history of the program. “We’re trending toward the right direction,” Capital City coach Joe Collier said. “The things that we’re doing in the offseason, in the season, the corrections and tweaks we’re trying to make during games during the season, this is the path we should be on.”
The 2022 season was filled with many firsts for Capital City. But a couple still eluded the Cavaliers. Tonight, the No. 3 seed Cavaliers have a chance to right the missing piece from their first successful season as they look for Capital City’s first district win as it hosts No. 6 seed Battle Spartans in the first round of the Class 5 District 5 tournament.
