getting benefits that expired on september 6, where is the money they re using to balance their personal balance sheets at home? i think everybody is at wit s end trying to figure it out. robin, another pandemic-related woe, the shortages of pretty much everything right now. people are feeling it at the grocery store, the paper towels, the rice cakes, that was big talk in our meeting this morning. do we know how long it will be before we see a return to normal? i think there s been no modern equivalent, precedent, when you shut off the global economy in a matter of days. as things normalize and the vaccine comes online and everything, and you re just assuming that as things normalize, you can flip a switch back on and all those workers will come back to work. you re feeling it in energy, not enough roughnecks, people in restaurants, seeing it across the board.
going back yet. so i wouldn t freak out about this one kind of bad number, because it repeated in october and november, if we don t see an uptick in the overall jobs number, then you ve got a real problem. this one i would say, crummy, wish it was better, but there are better days ahead. we ve got a real problem with labor force participation and getting people back into the labor force, particularly women. as you noted earlier, we re still dealing with kids at home. they still don t have all the childcare in place that they need, some structural problems that the economy, that the biden administration is trying to deal with. but we have not hit that point in this recovery where, you know, jobs start flooding back in, and we get, you know, full recovery from covid-19. we may get there, but we re not there now. robin, there is a correction in this report on last month s jobs numbers. we initially saw 235,000 jobs
sheriff, an ally of president trump. this was a serious issue, he was spotted, not served. he s out there. we know he lives in new york state. i m not going to say what town he lives in. but yeah, they have to serve him and have not been successful in doing so. tara and leigh ann, thank you for your reporting, we appreciate it. today s jobs report for the month of september was disappointing, only 194,000 jobs were added to the economy last month. far from the 500,000 economists predicted. president biden reacted to the report earlier this afternoon. today s report is based on a survey that was taken during the week of september the 13th, not today, september the 13th. when covid cases were averaging more than 150,000 per day. but when you take a step back and look at what s happening, we re actually making real progress.
