DeFUNIAK SPRINGS Walton County commissioners have expressed some interest in acquiring an almost five-acre tract on U.S. Highway 98 at Ellis Road in the western edge of the county. The acreage might have some utility use as part of a county mobility plan or as an access point for the nearby Miramar Regional Beach Access on Scenic Gulf Drive. Commissioners decided unanimously Tuesday to get an appraisal on the tract, spanning 4.88 acres on the south side of U.S. 98, about a half-mile from the Miramar Regional Beach Access. The parking area at the popular beach access, which shares space with Pompano Joe s restaurant and includes some parking on the north side of Scenic Gulf Drive, is routinely jammed with cars during vacation season, as is Scenic Gulf Drive itself. ....
