Vaccine Demand Dwindling In Tuolumne County

COVID-19 Vaccine Sonora, CA Tuolumne County Public Health officials were hoping that anywhere from1,700 to 2,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine would be given out to locals at a distribution event yesterday at the Westside property. However, only around 500 people came by to get a shot. It shows that the county could be nearing a saturation point for vaccine demand. As of today, an estimated 45-percent of the adult population in the county has received at least one dose. Of the highest risk group, those 65 and older, the number is much higher, 73-percent. It drops to around 50-percent for those between 50-64 and 24-percent of those 18-49.

Tuolumne County Planning To Allow Public Back Into Supervisor Meetings

That is anticipated to change soon. During the discussion about the COVID-19 response, Board Chair Ryan Campbell said it is a regular discussion topic between the CAO’s Office and the Public Health Department. He said the county has been taking a “cautious approach” out of fear that they would have to eventually close meetings again if the infection levels increased. He said the “informal plan” is to reopen meetings by the first week of May. He says it could come sooner if the county enters the “yellow tier” prior to the first of May. He added, “It is still subject to change if we did have an immediate spike,” but it is the plan that has been “discussed internally.”

Encouraging COVID-19 Developments In Tuolumne County

COVID-19 vaccine Sonora, CA Health officials provided an update this morning on the local impacts of COVID-19. At the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors meeting Health and Human Services Director Rebecca Espino stated, “On February 2nd we reported that the community had received 5,000 doses of vaccine, and today I’m excited to report that the healthcare partners in Tuolumne County have distributed almost 10,000 doses.” The health department will distribute an additional 400 doses today and 800 on Thursday. Other healthcare providers and pharmacies are also actively distributing the vaccine.  Espino says it is “great news,” and “hopefully pretty soon” the county will be able to move from the most restrictive purple tier to the lesser severe red tier.
