The pandemic could blight the future of up to 1. 8 billion young people, the World Bank has told the bbc. Those under the age of 25 have borne the Brunt Ofjob and wage cuts during the crisis. Now their prospects could be further hampered by a lack of access to employment, training and education, unless the opportunity to deliver better skills and jobs is seized. The bank kicks off its annual youth summit today. The bbc s global trade correspondent, dharshini david, spoke to its Vice President for human capital development, mamta murthi. Even before this pandemic, it was the case that about one third of the young people in the world were not in employment, they were not in education, and not in training, so there was already a problem before the crisis. Because of the crisis, we are seeing a significant impact. The ilo estimates one in six young people will lose theirjobs, be out of employment because of the crisis. This is on top of the crisis.
