KANPUR: A day after the Kanpur gang-rape survivor’s father was crushed to death by a speeding truck, metres away from the Ghatampur community health centre where his 13-year-old daughter was undergoing medical examination for sexual assault, the policeman whose two sons are accused in the case was booked for murder and suspended on Thursday.

The brazen murder of a rape survivor’s father is extremely disturbing. Considering that the accused happens to be a cop, the case must be pursued without any prejudice or slackness. Like Caesar’s wife, the police should be above suspicion.
Three other policemen with Sajeti police station were also suspended. Sub-inspector Devendra Yadav, currently posted in neighbouring Kannauj, was charged with murder as he had “engineered the fatal hitand-run on the highway”.
