Advertisement Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin just a little packs the same punch. It is also cheaper and easier to manufacture than heroin. The profit margin is a huge reason why major drug cartels and street-level dealers both have become overwhelmingly reliant on using fentanyl as the active ingredient in the drug supply either with or without the customer’s knowledge.
