Wareham first responders receive covid vaccine in Marion

Hundreds of first responders - including Wareham and Onset Firefighters, Wareham Police, and Wareham EMS - have received the first round of the covid vaccine, thanks to a clinic at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center in Marion.
The drive-through clinic, held on Jan. 13 and 14, was the first major rollout of the vaccine in the Tri-Town.
“We didn’t have control over this and we’ve finally turned the corner and now we’re going on the offensive,” said Marion Police Chief Richard Nighelli.
When first responders arrived at the clinic, their IDs were verified with names on a list before they drove under a large tent to receive the vaccine, administered by paramedics from Marion, Mattapoisett, Rochester and Wareham. ....

Covid vaccine to be available for first responders next week

Firefighters, emergency medical services, and police officers in Wareham are set to begin receiving the coronavirus vaccine on Monday.
Wareham officials are collaborating with those from Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester to distribute about 400 vaccines to first responders. The vaccine will be administered by Public Health Nurses and staff from the Tri-Town and Wareham.
Marion Town Administrator Jay McGrail said there are around 400 eligible first responders in the Tri-Town and Wareham, all of whom will have to make an appointment to receive the vaccine.
Marion’s Public Health Nurse Lori Desmarais also updated the Board of Health at a Jan. 5 meeting on plans for the vaccination clinics. ....

Dozens of active covid cases in Marion, Board of Health hears

MARION There are currently 36 active coronavirus cases among residents in the town, according to Public Health Nurse Lori Desmarais, who updated the Board of Health on the numbers at a Jan. 5 meeting.
“Those are people in the community that we are currently actively following,” Desmarais noted.
The town has seen 207 Covid-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
Old Rochester Regional Junior High School currently has three positive cases in isolation and four contacts in quarantine, while ORR High School has eight positive cases isolating and 20 contacts quarantining.
The junior high has had 12 confirmed cases since the pandemic started, and the high school has had 36 confirmed cases. ....
