She shared that for her daughter, 10, and nieces, there are never any assumptions.
“From their lens, and for people of color, when you’re constantly seeing lack of access to spaces, we aren’t surprised it’s taken this long,” said LaFortune. “We know to get there, it requires true revolution.”
LaFortune said because Harris is the daughter of immigrants, is Black and Indian, we’re going to see changes: “She represents a shift in our society around who Americans are and what they look like.”
Harris is now an example parents can point to as they encourage their children’s dreams.
