Conservation-minded residents, students, family and friends are encouraged to join the annual cleanup along the banks of the Carson River, Brunswick Canyon and Prison Hill Recreation Area on Saturday as part of the 17th National Public Lands Day.
The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department host an open house to discuss planning efforts for the 2,500-acre Prison Hill Recreation Area and adjacent properties.
After years of relative non-enforcement and mounting concerns of vandalism, trash dumping and illegal off road riding on public land designated as open space and not for motorized use, the Carson City Sheriff s Office will step up patrol of the Prison Hill Recreation Area south to Fifth Street.
A patent and deed for transfer of public lands from the Bureau of Land Management to Carson City should be finalized by the end of May 2015. Approximately 5,400 acres will be included in the transfer and are located throughout Carson City.
