good morning. we begin this hour with a look at one of the most influential and controversial figures in the world today, elon musk. it was just over a year ago the spacex and tesla ceo completed his acquisition of twitter. since then, he s had no shortage of battles, we spoke about it with walter isaacson, his biographer. talk about writing at elon musk during a volatile time of his life publicly. talk about the challenges and awards as an author you got out of that. first of all, he has been volatile his whole life. as a kid, 2018, he s going just as crazy at times as you see him in the past couple of years. when i started this book, when we first started talking about it, he was the guy bringing us into electric vehicles and the only person who could send people into orbit in the u.s. i thought, good technology story. then a year into my reporting, he is secretly buying up twitter, going to hawaii in a two- to three-night binge and deciding to take it over. it became a
good morning and welcome to the saturday edition of morning joe weekend. it was a really busy week. let s get to some of the conversations you may have missed. gag order in donald trump s hush money case is an effect, but his attorney said, they will keep fighting to get it thrown out. that comes after new york s top court declined to hear trump s appeal of the matter earlier this week. the state court appealed trump s thing, there was no constitutional grounds for the appeal. that leaves the gag order imposed by judge juan mershon in place meaning, he could still face penalties in place for violating it. the order bars trump from going after witnesses, jurors, and others who were involved in the case. following his felony conviction last month, the sentencing is scheduled for july 11th. so, i guess first of all, do you expect this gag order to be put back before the sentencing? i don t, but maybe there is reason for it. and then, what do you expect for the sentencing?
parade tomorrow for this year s nba champions. the boston celtics. we give our heros parades. and the early days of space travel, we gave astronauts parades. but then we shot so many astronauts into space and to the moon, we stopped giving them parades. we took space travel for granted. it was no longer the stuff of heroism. our most important heros have always been taken for granted. there is no higher calling. than saving lives. some of you might know what it feels like. but most of us don t. most of us have never and will never save a life. not one. we won t drag a wounded soldier off a battlefield. we won t drive a dying person to an emergency room just in time. we won t treat patients in hospitals who would die. not every doctor and nurse saves lives. some areas of medicine do not involve life and death. some doctors occasionally save lives and then, there is dr. anthony fauci. he has had the experience as an attending physician of saving the life of a patient to his car
The program, the president s emergency plan for aids relief that has brought treatment, care and prevention to the developing world particularly africa. that program saved between 20 andto 25 million lives. if i look back at my life and pass on tomorrow, that s one of the things that i think i could feel good about. i think some people might say today that the aids crisis is over, that we know how to deal with it and it s not an automatic death sentence. is the aids crisis over? it s not. if you look at the number of infections worldwide over a million a year. we have 35,000 new infections in the united states. we still have lack of access to life-saving drugs and prevention to so many people throughout the world. you kind of get used to something that you ve been dealing with for 41 years and
tripoli today. a government official says one of the blasts hit a compound belonging to libyan leader moammar gadhafi. nato claiming responsibility, at least one of the attacks which it said struck a vehicle in a storage area. the airstrikes happened during the daylight which has been rare for nato strikes in libya. president obama arrived back in the u.s. within the last hour. he wrapped up a six-day trip to europe today in poland where he did meet with the prime minister, also met with veterans of solidarity labor movement, credited with helping end communism in poland. the president praised poland s transition to democracy and called it a model for nations across north africa and the middle east now. and in missouri, the death toll in joplin has risen again after last sunday s tornado. 140 people, 42 people, i should say, are confirmed dead from that f-5 twister. another 100 are missing. president obama is scheduled to tour this area tomorrow and meet some of the victims
