An analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a nonprofit organisation, has shown that 11 political parties collected a total of ₹2,078 crore in donations during Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assembly elections last year while the total expenditure incurred was ₹288 crore.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has denied allegations that the Congress party is using funds from the state to finance its campaign expenses in upcoming assembly elections in other states. The denial follows attacks by the opposition BJP and JD(S) over the recovery of Rs 82 crore ($11.1m) in cash during raids on two contractors in Bengaluru. Siddaramaiah stated that the party high command has not requested any money and the allegations are false.
