Senator Ramos resigns

Senator Ramos resigns Written by Makayla Grijalva on December 8, 2020 District 28 state Sen. Gabriel Ramos has resigned from his legislative position, effective last Sunday, after accepting a job with the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. The resignation comes less than a month before Ramos was set to pass the torch to his successor, Siah Correa Hemphill, who was elected in November and will take office Jan. 1.  According to New Mexico law, state government cannot compensate legislators for work that they do for a state entity, with the exception of the per diem payments they receive as legislators.  “There are three weeks left, and I just figured that they needed me to go ahead and start, so we went ahead and gave the resignation,” Ramos said Monday. “There were three weeks left, so that did weigh in part of my decision. I had to get it done.”
