Pietermaritzburg charities crippled by the unrest

From the inability to do their work on the ground to dire financial difficulties, non-governmental (NGO) and non-profit organisations (NPO) are struggling to get back on their feet after the recent unrest that devastated KwaZulu-Natal
Thousands of organisations across the province are feeling the knock-on effects of the unrest, having lost donors and sponsors as many businesses that support them concentrate on rebuilding.

The Witness, Pietermaritzburg Children’s Home general manager, Fiona Balgobind, said their biggest struggle during the week was finding food, such as bread and milk.
