there was a big difference in terms of the votes, the early votes, mail votes dropped off early on versus the ones dropped off last minute. ones dropped off last minute much more republican in character than ones returned early. that s why trump made up a lot of ground in the final days of the vote count in arizona in 2020. not enough to win the state but enough to make it close. there s a question there in arizona and i think in nevada as well what the character, political character of the vote would be. we re trying to figure that out. certainly enough for cortez masto to overtake laxalt. he did have a pretty good overnight in terms of putting himself in contention here. biggest wild card here. opportunity, a clear opportunity for democrats i think right now. excuse me, for republicans in nevada than there is in arizona for their senate candidate to get that pick off. they re going to need to get one of those two, and then need to force georgia into a runoff and win georgia.
remember, the debate, the only debate, the much-anticipated debate, between these two candidates, was the night of the 25th. so you re not getting a lot of the reaction to that debate. if that debate, which is much discussed, changed this race in any way, you re not necessarily seeing it in this poll. so keep that in mind when you look at it. for democrats, if they lose any, any seats, that they currently hold, they ve got to pick one off, and this one is their best chance to get a pick-off. this could be the single most important senate race that s out there right now. it sure is. thank you for ironing that all out for us. vaughn, what about the conversation and how it is changing on the campaign trail in arizona as the race has come down to the wire there. right, black masters has actually tied himself to kari lake the candidate for governor, the republican candidate, who is consistent consistently outpolled him in terms of support over the last many months, we were with them on
what are his chances. it s a state that republicans have had a very hard time with over the past 2, 1 or 2 decades, democrats have managed to eat deeply into that, formerly red state. but i think republicans feel very confident this is not only a place they can pick up the top spot with the governor s race but also their big pick-off for the senate and potentially three democrat incumbent house seats, track with what a lot of people think nationally in terms of what democrats could be up against in the house this november. john: and the final race in the silver state, this is adam laxalt, the attorney general. president trump is backing him, looked like he had a whole head of steam, but captain sam brown has come on strong. he suffered horrible burns in an ied incident deployed overseas.
