HSBC launches 'green deposit' facility for UAE corporate clients wanting to do good

Dubai: Corporate clients of HSBC’s UAE operations can now use their deposits for a greater purpose. The UK bank has launched ‘green deposits’, which will allow dollar and dirham deposits to be deployed for funding green initiatives. HSBC thus becomes the first bank in the UAE to offer this facility as ESG (environmental social governance) principles become more widely accepted by investors and businesses. Corporate clients will receive a quarterly, portfolio-level view of how their funds have been deployed to support green projects, and they will be able to manage their green account as they would a regular deposit account.

CEA-Leti Reports Breakthrough High-Performance Gyroscope For Automotive, Aeronautic and Industrial Applications

CEA-Leti Reports Breakthrough High-Performance Gyroscope For Automotive, Aeronautic and Industrial Applications From CEA-LetiJan 27 2021 CEA-Leti scientists, working with researchers at Politecnico di Milano, have developed the world’s first high-performance gyroscope for operating in severe environments, such as industrial and aeronautic equipment and automobiles. The breakthrough proves it is possible to detect minute rotational movement even among system vibrations. Common in everyday objects, inertial sensors must be designed to meet ever-increasing constraints of miniaturization and cost, as well as requirements for performance and robustness. For certain automotive, industrial and military applications, gyroscopes must be able to detect a variation of one degree per hour, i.e. a speed of rotation about ten times slower than that of the earth, in environments that are subjected to strong, consistent vibrations.
