HBCU leaders hope Biden, Harris will continue support of minority students


He said there is a very small window for the new administration to become serious about whether they are going to get things accomplished or use excuses.  
Biden is already grappling with what to do about the country s more than $27 trillion in student loan debt.
Not only does the president plan to continue the pause on federal student loan payments amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but Biden officials told USA Today recently they would encourage Congress to pass legislation to erase $10,000 in federal student loan debt per person. 
That move, however, is likely to draw criticism from activists who have pushed Biden to forgive more debt per person, in some cases up to $50,000, via executive action upon taking office. ....

WASHINGTON - Howard University will not hang congratulatory banners or send students to the U.S. Capitol to watch alumna Kamala Harris be sworn in as vice presidenton Wednesday. Instead, it will beef up campus security.

Howard Leaders Discuss Historic Election of Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris as Inauguration Approaches

WASHINGTON – Howard University President 
Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick joined members of the faculty and a student leader to discuss the significance of Howard alumna Kamala Harris’ historic election as the vice president of the United States. Frederick moderated the conversation that touched on Harris’ place in the long legacy of Howard University’s high-achieving students and faculty and what her election to the White House means for our country. 
“The role of Howard University and HBCUs in particular has never been more clear in my opinion,” said Frederick. “HBCUs have always been at the forefront of holding America to account and insisting on better. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris has always embodied our ideals of truth and service. We can find no better role model for all leaders and institutions to emulate.”  ....
