Started late, because when he showed up, nobody liked him. He turned out to be this weird, awkward, of not just kind of personality. And remember, iowa is all about person to person campaigning. This is the quintessential retail politics. So, if you cant get along with people, if youre always seen as ill at ease, always looking at your lips and having a strange smile, chances are people will not be on your side. I do think that this is kind of Do Or Die for him. What i will look for, at least on monday, is the margin of victory. Donald trump will win, but is this by 35 points, 35 points, 25 points . I think for Nikki Haley to have any Hope Or Prayer of ever catching him, shes going to have to come above expectations, as they say, and that means making it closer than people thought it would be. endorsement, but in recent weeks he s been navigating that relationship and it seems as though his supporters are comfortable with him walking this fine line. we likely won t see high profile national republicans with him on the campaign trail or the former president in the final days of this tight race. last week my colleague jeff zeleny asked youngkin about trump. would you like to see him campaign here? the person campaigning here is glenn youngkin. i m on the ballot. i m running against terry mcauliffe. terry mcauliffe wants anybody but terry mcauliffe to campaign. he s inviting the world to come here. i saw a woman at his rally wearing a t-shirt with the white house on it, referring to the white house as stolen property. i see youngkin as both trying to appeal to them as well as recognizing that he needs largely white virginians in the suburbs who may have voted for president biden because they thought that the former
next wednesday. and reprising when mcauliffe nearly won. the first governor of the state of virginia, terry mcauliffe. reporter: and releasing an ad to link the two. i was honored to receive president trump s endorsement. reporter: but youngkin is trying to stand alone. all eyes are on virginia. reporter: mindful, he needs to win over the virginians who previously voted democratic including for biden who won last year with ten points. in a race that will turn on enthusiasm, it s a tricky balancing act with trump. would you like to see him campaigning here? no, the person campaigning here for the next 2 1/2 weeks is glenn youngkin. i m on the ballot. you re going to see me campaigning glenn youngkin, the candidate, and you re going to see him bring in everything in the party. reporter: youngkin does not want to talk about trump.
today the campaign announced they raised $15 million, mostly from small donors in fact more small donors than barack obama had at this time. that leaves me impressed. mike, what do you think he s touching on? what do you think is missing in the democratic party or maybe even in america in general? what is he tapping into? well i ve seen bernie sand ners person campaigning. he s not the greatest speaker. he s not somebody who s going to sort of lift up audiences with his oratory. but he s saying what i think democratic primary base voters are thinking. they don t like the big banks. they don t like money in politics. they feel like that the system is geared against the little guy. and better than anybody, certainly better than hillary clinton who s rolling in money, bernie sanders sort of speaks to that populist left wing of the democratic party. he s tapping into it. i think if there were a younger or maybe a more charismatic candidate challenging hillary clinton, they d have an ev
