Music returns to Hartwood Acres this summer thanks to Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will bring music to the open air during “Summer With the Symphony” concerts in the amphitheater at Hartwood Acres Park in Allegheny County. The series will feature a full orchestra performing eight concerts four classical, three pops and one family-themed running from July 23 to Aug. 7. Tickets are on sale now.

Pocono YMCA to get $2 million in state grants for pool upgrade

STROUDSBURG The Pocono Family YMCA will get long-sought upgrades to the pool and other renovations at its building on Main Street in Stroudsburg Borough, state Rep. Maureen Madden, D-Monroe, announced Tuesday. The grant from the Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital program is part of $4 million in grants to the Poconos. Most of the money will be spent in Stroudsburg. Besides the YMCA, the grant will include $1 million in work at the Pocono Mountain Industrial Park Authority and $1 million for a major addition to the Stroud Mansion. In addition to the pool, the money for the YMCA will be spent on ADA-compliant improvements, sprinkler systems, interior restructuring and additional parking.

Albright College, Alvernia University receive state grants

Albright College and Alvernia University will receive a combined $5 million in state grant funding. Alvernia will get $4 million to assist with its Reading CollegeTowne initiative, which will see the school open a downtown Reading Campus. Albright will receive $1 million to renovate its Gingrich Library. - Advertisement - The money is being provided through the Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. The program is administered through the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. The local grant recipients were announced Wednesday by state Sen. Judy Schwank, an advocate for both projects.
