JOHN DAY — The Oregon Chinese Diaspora Project (OCDP) was honored with the National Trust/Advisory Council on Historic Preservation Award for Federal Partnerships in Historic Preservation during the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s annual PastForward Conference on Nov. 8, according to a release from the U.S. Forest Service.
The OCDP is a multi-agency collaboration that aims to promote research and education on Oregon’s early Chinese residents, officials said. These agencies include Southern Oregon University, Malheur National Forest, Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, Bureau of Land Management of Washington, and Oregon and Oregon State Parks, according to the release.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation has selected nine recipients of this year’s National Preservation Awards, with presentations and a formal awards ceremony to be hosted the evening of Friday, November 4.
The conference explores three themes: 1) Historic preservation as climate action, 2) Encouraging inclusion and diversity through preservation, and 3) Understanding preservation’s role in real estate development.
