A study conducted by researchers at BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa campus proposes an innovative solution to recycle scrap tyres in India. The study focuses on the recovery and modification of carbon black from the tyres, which can be used in water desalination and purification processes. The project has received funding from the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) of the Indian government and is expected to be completed within three years. Improper disposal of tyres poses a significant environmental threat, with many ending up in landfills or being burned illegally.
