Jessica De Jesus Acevedo’s classroom at the Little Star of Ours daycare center on Palermo Street was filled with the sounds of happy, playful children when Congresswoman Katherine Clark stopped by for a virtual visit Wednesday afternoon.
A year ago this may have seemed impossible to Acevedo. Like many small business owners, she was forced to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Despite being closed through September, Acevedo managed to keep the center afloat, and on Wednesday she was honored as Clark’s virtual guest at President Joe Biden’s joint address to Congress.
