Council briefs: Mask bylaw extended to August, direction on proposed nuclear dump

Council OKs environment committee position on nuclear waste facility Council unanimously accepted a position recommended by its environment committee on a proposed nuclear waste disposal facility at Chalk River, about 200 kilometres northwest of Ottawa. With the vote, the city isn’t joining several other municipalities in opposing the project by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), which is planning a disposal facility for “low-level” nuclear waste at a site roughly one kilometre from the Ottawa River.
