i don t know, i haven t read the book, but we can ask about some of those pieces he has put into print. one of the things you guys have had a very different posture than, say, the very first impeachment investigation in terms of your willingness to be aggressive when it comes to contempt right off the bat. yet steve bannon was now formally charged with contempt of congress, and the committee plans to charge him for that still. why do you think that is? for every uncooperative individual, we ve had many, many others who have been cooperative. over 250 witness interviews that we ve taken. so there are a few outlyers, clearly. but we still have maintained a robust amount of information that we ve been able to gather. so that s going to continue to be the posture that we take. and if individuals aren t
willing to comply, clearly like we ve shown with mr. bannon, there are some consequences they could face. and it s your sense, and the posture is totally different from past investigative committees, but have you guys been forceful enough and tried to compel individuals? are there other steps you can take at this point? i won t get into the investigative steps we are taking, but i think it does speak volumes that the amount of information we ve been able to gather, 25,000 documents, they continue to pour in that is helpful in our effort of both questioning future individuals as well as laying the groundwork to build this report that will talk about how we need to protect democracy and what happened on january 5th and january 6th. so those are important components of it, and there are some outlyers, but clearly we are taking a focus of gathering the truth and thompson and vice
iowans in this vote in favor of the bipartisan infrastructure bill. so he needed to shore up that republican base. now, you saw some republicans who have decided not to run for re-election again, people like senator roy blunt and senator richard berg, north carolina. they didn t have a path. it wasn t viable for them because they were not trumpie enough. it s going to depend on the state and the candidate, but it s purely politics. you have the outlyers like representative cheney and even senator murkowski in alaska who is running a very independent race and being an independent senator even though she s still a republican. but one other thing, there are some republicans who are worried that the more the former president is present in the political cycle, that means that republicans are unable to focus on president biden and his low approval numbers, because democrats will now have a foil,
and we still need greater production if we re going to break the back of this throughout the world. richard, i want to bring up, the g-7 countries are all not well vaccinated. this is an awkward moment here, isn t it, in this meeting where you have the uk and the united states sort of the outlyers. everybody else still getting the vaccine has had some issues. this hasn t been a great moment collectively for the g-7 when it comes to vaccinations. the eu dropped the ball, and what asian countries learned the hard way, they thought they had broken the back of covid. what they found out was all the social distancing, the masking, quarantining, contact tracing only took you so far. then because of travel and the like, still the virus got in and had real effect. the vaccines are essential. that is the lesson of the last couple of weeks. and yes, another subject that you talk about so much, we could
