president biden about the recommendation from the covid task force for a booster shot for all americans ages 12 and older. we know that the highly effective vaccines are less effective over time, and that is why today we are announcing the plan to stay ahead of the virus by being prepared to over covid-19 booster shots to vaccinated adults 18 years and older and prepared for the booster shot eight months after receiving the second dose of the moderna or the pfizer dose. we plan to start this september 2021. three points are clear. vaccine protection against the sars covid-19 protection begins to decrease over time. and second the vaccine effectiveness against the severe disease and hospitalization and death remains relatively high. and third, the disease effectiveness is increasing against the delta variance. and so it is a big announcement raising a lot of questions and we hope to answer many of them for you in a minute, and even as the federal officials are rolling to
some immunocompromised people. in order for someone to get a third shot approved by doctors and by the fda and by medical officials, the fda has to first authorize it to be used outside of the current way it is authorized, which right now is just for two shots. we re learning the fda could change that to include a third shot of moderna or pfizer for people who are immunocompromised. this is based on sources from inside the administration. that s just the first step in this. then it goes to a vote for the cdc vaccine advisers. conveniently, they re scheduled to meet on friday. so whether or not they make a vote to recommend this, remains to be seen. but it is significant, because this has been a big question that some people have had. you know, there have been studies that have shown people that are vaccinated but immunocompromised are more likely to end up in the hospital or die from covid-19 than the general population that are vaccinated. our sources say the timing could sl
therefore that is what i will do and my resignation will be effective in 14 days. it is big news, and the right decision, but the truth is that he had no other option. cuomo s announcement comes a week to the day after the state attorney general s released a scathing report. his defiance only made matters worse. calls for resignation echoed across the state of new york, the u.s. congress and the white house with president biden joining those urging him to get gone. new york state assembly was plunging ahead with impeachment indictments. push came to shove and it came really fast. and so with cuomo s departure, in two weeks kathy hochul will be the first woman to serve as government of new york state. cuomo did not do himself any favors either. today a damning new report in the new yorker details the heavy-handed tactics cuomo has used in the past, suggesting he even tried to quash a federal investigation. we will have more on that coming up and it points to cuomo s pattern
