Teen in custody after Evart stabbing of young child

REED CITY — A young Evart child sustained life-threatening injuries Monday after an 18-year-old male suspect allegedly stabbed him multiple times. The Osceola County Sheriff s Office reported at 4:14 p.m. on April 19 Meceola Central Dispatch received a 911 call about a stabbing that occurred on the 400 block of Pine Street in Evart. Deputies from the sheriff s office immediately responded along with Osceola County EMS, according to police. Once on scene, police said deputies located a young child who had suffered multiple life-threatening stab wounds. Police said the juvenile was transported to Grand Rapids to undergo surgery. After an investigation by the sheriff s office with assistance from the Michigan State Police, an 18-year-old male suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

COVID concerns cause Osceola Co. Circuit Court to remain closed

REED CITY — COVID-19 has remained an issue for the court system within Osceola County this week. Last week, it was announced that proceedings in the 49th Circuit Court were canceled due to concerns with COVID-19. For the second week, those concerns will again halt court proceedings Friday. Last week, Osceola County Prosecutor Tony Badovinac said his office was closed and the court was adjourned due to four of the five people in his office testing positive for COVID-19, including himself. He said the afternoon of March 22 and into March 23, he started to feel under the weather. Although his office was closed, he said last week the hope is it will reopen this week. He also said the hope is the court will be back up this week.
