Colin and Kiwifruit are a pair of North Island Brown Kiwi residing in the Water Catchment of Wainuiomata. Colin wanders along a track, foraging, followed by his female mate, Kiwifruit, who has a close encounter with a pesky stick, then runs off as Colin calls off-camera. It’s 2002, and armed with enthusiasm and hammers a handful of volunteers tramp into the hills behind Wainuiomata. Why hammers? Because to humanely kill a possum, you take it by the tail, tap it on the side of head with the side of the hammer to stun it, and then you cave in its skull.
