Councillor Todd Taylor shares views on municipal governance

July 29, 2021   ·   0 Comments By Constance Scrafield What are the duties and obligations that a town council has to its residents, the people who elected those members, to fulfill them? Is a town a business or responsible to people first? These were primary questions Councillor Todd Taylor brought to bear during an interview with the Citizen last week. We were sitting in a patio, sun overhead, enjoying a coffee at one of the fine coffee houses on Broadway. Coun. Taylor’s position with the town is part of the overhaul from the last municipal election in 2018, brought to the Orangeville Council. The election introduced new faces with fresh attitudes, as one might hope, to be judicious with the town’s finances and improve the town council’s relationship with the people living here.

April 15, 2021   ·   0 Comments By Sam Odrowski The Town of Orangeville recently took some time to recognize businesses and organizations who have made outstanding efforts in the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. During an April 12 Council meeting, Mayor Sandy Brown announced the latest recipients of the COVID-19 Community Recognition Awards. The recognition program is aimed at honouring deserving residents, businesses and organizations and has seen more than a dozen awards announced since the fall of 2020. Ms. Frew provided all the socially distanced drop-offs and pick-ups of the kits for months. The customers and nominators of the Pottery Parties submission say that Tanya kept them sane and busy with pottery projects and they are very thankful. The Orangeville Lions Club was the other recipient of the Town’s COVID-19 Community Recognition Award.

Pete the Cat | Orangeville Citizen

Headline: Pete the Cat By Anthony Carnovale Look, I can’t lie: if I’m walking into your house, the first thing I’m looking for is books. If there aren’t any books, the second thing I’m looking for is the door. I can’t help it. You see, I judge people by the books they read and/or don’t read. I’m a bit of a snob that way. To me, there is no more important thing a person can do for themselves outside of food, shelter and companionship, than to read books. When I was a kid, I read everything that could be read: subways signs, street signs, labels on clothing. I read my way through the Hardy Boys series and would lose myself in Choose Your Own Adventure books.
