mcgahn enough information to take action? well, what we know is that there was evidence that she had that mike flynn had lied to the vice president. there were transcripts of his phone calls with the russian ambassador to the u.s. on december 29th where they did talk about sanctions. they were made available to the white house and eventually we do know that they the white house officials poured over those transcripts. we also know that you know, it s not clear exactly when the president or if the president looked at those transcripts or went over the evidence. we do know he said in his interview with lester holt that you know, mcgahn looked into it and he didn t find anything to be of an emergency i think is how he put it. that was why he didn t see the need to fire him at that time. we also know, chuck, he told lester holt he fired comey because of russia. so you begin to build you know,
named michael flynn as his national security adviser. you remember that. that s november 18th. on december 29th, 2016, flynn spoke with the russian ambassador after the obama administration unveiled sanctions against russia for election hacking. december 29th. december 30th, vladimir putin announced he wouldn t retaliate. president-elect trump then praised vladimir putin in a tweet. couple weeks later, january the 13th, sean spicer was then the white house press secretary, says, flynn did not discuss sanctions with the russian ambassad ambassador. this is important. on january 15th, two days later, vice president pence, vice president elect pence, said flynn told him sanctions were not discussed with sergey kislyak, the russian ambassador. february 10th, the trump administration is in office, donald trump denies hearing reports of flynn s discussions with russia about sanctions.
to the u.s., serge kickleback in december of last year. court documents show that others on the trump team knew of flynn s efforts. on december 29th, flynn called former deputy national security adviser k.t. mcfarland at mar-a-lago about the sanctions imposed by the obama administration. according to flynn, russian officials did not want them to escalate the situation. flynn immediately called kickleback. shortly after that call, flynn briefed mcfarland that he did indeed discuss with the ambassador. but then in january, vice president elect mike pence told the united nations that he did not talk about it with kislyak. they did not discuss anything having to do with the united states decision to expel diplomats or impose censor
within the jurisdiction of the executive branch of the government of the united states to wit he falsely made statements, and on december 29th, flynn did not ask the government to refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions that the u.s. imposed against russia the same day, and flynn did not recall the russian ambassador subsequently telling him russia had chosen to moderate its response to those sanctions as per his request. count two, he did not ask for a delay of the vote and the russian ambassador never described to flynn russia s response to his request. jim scuitto, this has to do with those conversations that michael flynn had with the russian ambassador during the transition, and sanctions that were placed by the obama administration. conversations that, apparently,
him, believes he lied to them and the special counsel charged him with lying to the fbi about that conversation. the information goes into detail about those conversations, and we are reading through that right now. basically, it says that let me just read some of this to you, john, it s the best way to do this. on december 29th, in one of the conversations in 2016, flynn it says, he did not ask the government of russia s ambassador to the united states when the fbi confronted him about these conversations, he lied about the nature, allegedly, according to the documents, about the nature of the conversation. again, also, remember, he told the vice president that he did not have those conversations, and did not talk about sanctions. ultimately lying to the vice president got him fired and now more serious charges here
