Fishing in restricted zone: 12 fishermen held, trawler seized 39
Berhampur: A patrolling unit of Forest department today seized a fishing trawler of Paradip and arrested 12 fishermen for catching fish in the sea despite restrictions.
It may be mentioned here that fishing activities have been restricted in the sea in order to safeguard Olive Ridley sea turtle.
The arrested fishermen have been handed over to the Fisheries department and actions will be initiated against them as per Odisha Marine Fishing Regulation Act-1982, sources said.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is the second seizure of fishing trawler in the restricted zone. On November 16, a fishing trawler from the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh was seized for catching fish in the restricted zone in Berhampur and eight fishermen arrested in this connection.
