P.M. Khan Forms Committee to Probe ‘Money for Votes’ in 2018 Senate Polls
Three-member body to investigate leaked video, submit report to premier within 30 days
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday formed a three-member committee to probe a video allegedly showing lawmakers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf receiving bribes to vote against party lines in the 2018 Senate elections.
Comprising Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari and Adviser to the P.M. on Accountability Shahzad Akbar, the committee has been directed to conduct a thorough probe into the incident and submit a report with recommendations on how the government should proceed against the culprits in line with electoral and criminal laws. A notification issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said the committee had 30 days to complete its investigation and submit a report. ....

PESHAWAR: Eight more candidates obtained nomination papers on Wednesday for the upcoming Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“A total of 45 candidates have so far obtained nomination papers to contest the Senate elections in KP,” an official of the Election Commission of Pakistan said.
Half of the senators would retire by March 6 after completing six-year tenure and new members would be elected on these seats from all the provinces. Those who have so far obtained nomination papers include candidates of different political parties and independent contenders, including women.
More candidates are likely to turn up at the offices of ECP to collect nomination papers in the coming days. ....

PESHAWAR: Eight more candidates obtained nomination papers on Wednesday for the upcoming Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

SUKKUR/ ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that Imran Khan who had himself committed horse-trading should not throw his mud on them.
Addressing the JUI-F workers, he said, “Movement is a movement and it is not necessary to get its results.” He said, “We accept and stay with the protesting employees in Islamabad.”
He said that NAB is just a tool to victimise the opposition. “There is more corruption now than in the past and now there are voices of accountability from within the government party.”
He said that all the institutions of the state are the servants of masses, so institutions should have to perform their responsibilities in the parameters of constitution. PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday announced that it would investigate a recently-surfaced video showing members of the provincial assembly with mounds of cash received as purported bribe for changing loyalties in the 2018 Senate elections.
“We will get to the bottom of the [horse-trading] matter and will set up an inquiry commission for it in the due course of time,” spokesman for the government Kamran Khan Bangash told
Dawn.
He said the government would constitute an independent inquiry commission instead of a judicial commission. ....
