The fast-moving cyclone slammed into the West Australian coast just south of Kalbarri, barrelling inland and maintaining its strength into the early hours of Monday morning before shooting out across the southern coast as a tropical low.
Iconic landmarks including Carnarvonâs One Mile Jetty and Kalbarriâs Big River Ranch were destroyed and tens of thousands of homes in the stateâs Mid West remain without power.
WA Premier Mark McGowan warned it could be days before power was restored.
âIt is too early to provide a complete picture of the total damage,â he said.
The Australian Defence Force will be mobilised to support communities like Kalbarri, and Prime Minister Scott Morrison has activated the Commonwealth Disaster Response Plan to help those impacted by the cyclone in WA.
