Khalid, who was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for his alleged involvement in the case, had earlier told the Delhi court that other accused facing graver allegations than him were out on bail
Counsel for Khalid denied the accusation that he was the “mastermind” of the Delhi Riots and that women were placed at the forefront as a shield during the riots.
Prasad told the court that Khalid had allegedly sent text messages to Congress leader Jignesh Mewani, actors Pooja Bhatt, Swara Bhasker, Zeeshan Ayub, Sushant Singh, politician and social activist Yogendra Yadav, and was in close contact with news outlets the Wire and the Alt News among others.
Police sources also stated that in the 695 cases, 47 persons were convicted whereas 183 were acquitted. While 1,738 people are out on bail, 108 are in jail. Moreover, 50 have been discharged.
