SOMEBODY IN THE FAMILY OPENED THE FIRST PIZZA PLACE IN REVERE. MY FATHER-IN-LAW HAD OPENED ERNESTOâS. ERIKA: THAT SHOP IN BOSTONâS NORTH END HAS BEEN OPEN NOW FOR MORE THAN TWO DECADES. IN 2018, ANTHONY TOOK OVER THE BUSINESS AND THEN OPENED A SECOND LOCATION IN SOMERVILLEâS ASSEMBLY ROW. IT LOOKED LIKE A REALLY GOOD SISTER LOCATION TO THE NOR END. WE ENDED UP IN PHASE ONE, CLOSE TO THE RIVER, GREAT LOCATION HERE. ERIKA: INSIDE, THEIR MENU STAYED TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL. IF ITâS NOT BROKE, DONâT FIX IT. ERIKA: IN NEED OF NO REPAIR, NEAPOLITAN STYLE CLASSICS LIKE CHEESE, PEPPERONI, AND THE MARGARITA ALL WITH THE SAME SIGNATURE CRUST COOKED ON THE RACK. IT IS THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. Pizza Mamo’s American-style pies are unique on O‘ahu.

The pizza shop that just opened on the site of the original Brick Fire Tavern on Hotel Street isn’t just a rebrand. It’s far more exciting. Pizza Mamo is a complete overhaul with two pizza styles we haven’t seen in Honolulu: Brooklyn and Detroit.
Brooklyn-style pizza is a hybrid of Neapolitan and New York styles. It is characterized by a large 16-inch diameter, a crust that’s crisp but flexible enough to fold in half, and toppings that are simple and flavorful. Pizza nerds will notice the bubbles and pockets of dark spots known as leoparding (read: This is a serious pie).
