Roelof Heinen has been named Citizen of the Year by the Picture Butte and District Chamber of Commerce. “I was very surprised, and certainly unexpected,” said Heinen on receiving the award. “Honoured, but also humbled.” Heinen was born in Holland on June 8, 1944. In 1955, Heinen’s parents announced they were moving to Canada, with the family of five children arriving in southern Alberta on his 11th birthday. ....

The Alberta Urban Municipalities Association President’s Summit on Policing saw municipal leaders across the province join one another for a discussion on policing services, changes and advocacy. In the session on Feb. 4 open to media, AUMA hosted a zoom session focussing on the province’s Police Act Review and the Interim Police Advisory Board. The Police Act sets out who is responsible for roving police services to Albertans, oversight and governance, requirements for police officers and complaint handling processes. ....
Stirling council reviews 2020 energy report Poll Yes view report on the Village of Stirling’s energy program in 2020. During their regular Jan. 20 meeting, Stirling council was presented with a report on the energy program in 2020. “This program was a comprehensive cost analysis of the village’s energy costs in relation to electricity and natural gas. The review, put together by Mayor Trevor Lewington, provided a detailed breakdown of all costs associated with our energy consumption. Through the review we were able to validate the village is still a net-zero community,” said village CAO Scott Donselaar. “The review also provided a look at earning potentials the village has moving its electrical sites over to the municipally-owned Ridge Utilities. Ridge Utilities offers a solar club rate for micro-generators, such as the earning potential is significantly higher than our current energy program.” ....
