Published: 1:07 PM May 10, 2021    Approximately 30 people were found to have been at the party in February during the third Covid lockdown. - Credit: Metropolitan Police A man has admitted breaking Covid rules after throwing a Hackney boat party during the pandemic.  Jordy Nicholas Van Duijvenbode, 31, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on April 30, after approximately 30 people gathered for a party on a house boat on the River Lea between Tottenham Lock and Hackney.  Police received several calls in the early hours of February 13 reporting a large number of people playing music on a boat located off Hackney Marshes at about 4.20am.

Jordy Nicholas Van Duijvenbode, 31, pleaded guilty after around 30 people gathered for a boat party that travelled on the River Lea between Tottenham Lock and Hackney on February 13. Police received several calls in the early hours that day to reports of a large number of people playing music on the boat – despite restrictions in place during the middle of the third lockdown. By Press Association 2021 Duijvenbode arrives at a previous court hearing (Dominic Lipinski/PA) A houseboat owner has been warned he faces “substantial” fines for breaching Covid-19 regulations after police broke up illegal parties on his vessel, including one believed to have been attended by more than 70 people. Jordy Nicholas Van Duijvenbode, 31, pleaded guilty to holding a gathering of more than 30 people and a second charge of participating in a gathering of two or more people in an indoor space. Police were alerted by members of the public to reports on February 5 and February 13 that large music gatherings were taking place on his canal boat while London was under lockdown restrictions, east London’s Stratford Magistrates’ Court heard.
