Last month, the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill was passed by the National Assembly. From there, the bill would be sent to the National Council of Provinces, and if also passed there, it will be signed into law by the president. This may, however, still take years.
Migrant health experts have critised the National Health Insurance Bill (NHI) in its current form, saying it is unconstitutional because it excludes asylum seekers and other migrants from a raft of basic services.
The final version of the National Health Insurance Bill differs little from the original, indicating a lack of insight about the rolling out of an effective, feasible and sustainable healthcare model, the KwaZulu-Natal Specialist Network said on Friday.
