the state department has contacted all the americans registered in afghanistan now and instructed them to report to designated locations for evacuation. those evacuations have surged in the last few days. at least 70,000 total since august 14th. but the president has asked the military to be ready with contingency options to adjust the time table for final departure if necessary. still mr. biden issed a today mo that it is time to heave. the sooner we can finish the better. each day of operations brings added risk to our troops. every day we re on the ground is another day we know that isis k is seeking to target the airport and attack both u.s. and allied forces and innocent civilians. while the military races to get everyone out, two members of congress made their way in. democrat seth moulton and republican peter meyer both military vets said they flew to kabul to conduct oversight of evacuation efforts but they did not give advanced notice to house leadership or the
americans. vaccinated americans. as the delta variant rages across the country among unvaccinated people. and make no mistake, this is now a pandemic of the unvaccinated. the number of infections an the data on hospitalizations and deaths prove exactly that. in a cnn town hall last night president biden predicting the cdc is going to recommend that kids under the age of 12 wear a mask in school. the president also talked about when he thinks the fda will give the vaccines formal and final approval. that could help the pace of things here in america right now because the reality is that the vaccination rate in the u.s. has simply hit a wall. let s begin our coverage with cnn s arlette saenz live in washington for us. covid was top of mind for the president and the audience asking him questions last night. it certainly was and the coronavirus pandemic is at the center of so much of what the white house is going. as you mentioned, we re learning that top biden health officials
20-year career. well, cdc advisers are meeting right now to determine if a booster shot might be needed for some immuno compromised people who received the j & j vaccine. they re also discussing one very rare side effect from the shot. let s turn to cnn s chief white house correspondent kaitlan collins. we are seeing more places reinstate restrictions even for the doubly vaccinated, so what is the white house saying and considering doing? reporter: well, they re not saying much publicly except pointing to the fact that they have not changed guidance yet on whether or not vaccinated people should be wearing a mask. it is still that fully vaccinated people don t need to wear a mask indoors. of course, that is what it was when they changed it several months ago. it still remains there now, but cnn has reported others, including the washington post as well, that there are discussions happening with top white house officials, top federal health officials about potentiallies
